As the torch is extinguished ...

a tear rolled down my eye.

From the past few weeks ... we had extensive coverage of the Olympics. Any time I turn on the TV ... there was sports ... atheletics, swimming, soccer, volleyball, and of course ... women's beach volleyball ;-)

Highlights for me was the Men's 100 & 200m sprint ... where Usain Bolt emerged the winner. The women's pole vault where the russian Elana Isinbaeva managed a 5.05m breaking her perevious WR of 5.04m. The elation in her eyes said it all!

Michael Phelps - 8 Golds! Is he man or fish? Was it 7 WR and 1 OR ?

Of course ... for us Singaporeans ... Tao Li - with her Asian record of 57.54secs in the Women's 100 fly and the SG's women table tennis team making us proud with a Silver in 48yrs of medal drought. ;-)

And now ... it's back to the grind at the office ... no more excuses to chiak-chua to pop to the Fountain Food court to watch the Olympics. :(

Oops! Did I just say that out loud??!!!

What do they feed the Jamaicans?

Not again!!! But yes it is usain bolt who has done the double over
carl lewis!

Not since 1992, has n e one done the 100m & 200m ... in GOLD! :-)

The stride and grace as Usain crossed the line, this time w/o his
audacious imitation of an airplane.

Right after that, it was melanie walker who broke the OR @ 52.64 sec.
Where else did she come from, but Jamaica :-D

So answer me this ... what do they feed on these jamaicans?

Actually ... I must also add ... "Who says lightning doesn't strike twice at the same place?" ;-)

Cheers,
Chatboy
ps: Sent from my iPhone :-)

Another mouthwatering event!

Wed Aug 20 22:20  Men's 200m Final @ the National Stadium

Not since Carl Lewis has anyone won Gold in both the 100m and 200m in the olympics.

Tonight's the night!

Shawn Crawford of the US and Usain Bolt qualifying in the Semis in qualifying time of 20.12 and 20.09 respectively. Tonight weknow who is the fastest man over 200m.

I believe that Usain Bolt can and will break the WR for the 200m and pulling his foot off the accelerator in the process as well!

So ... let's wait and see!

Like a BOLT of Ligntning indeed!!!!!

Wow! From the get go ... Usain Bolt bolted ... heh heh ... pun intended ... from his starting block ... he strided and pushed him self ... at the 60m mark he was clearly ahead of the pack.

With another 20m to go ... Usain knew he won an dropped his hand ... spreading them out in victory ... pumped his chest with his palm and stode past the tape. All in a World Record time of 9.68secs (that's what the screen showed). An amazing feat!

A few secs later, we noticed that the official time was 9.69secs. History has been re-written. Shaving off 0.03sec of the previous WR.

However, in my mind, I continue to ponder the what ifs. Like what if he had not been so audacious and instead to pushed on with his pace. What would have been the new WR? .63, .60 what!!!!

In the slow mo replay that focused on Usain - head-on ... this is what I noticed.

His getting off the block was a little slow ... as he pushed himself on, u could see the determination ... then as he pulled even, his eyes starts to take glances to his right. A moment later as he turned his head to glance to the side, he knew he was unbeatable, he spread his hands in victory. He began to smile and finally pumped his chest as he crossed the finish line.

All I can say to that is Amazing!

Now ... let's wait for the doping results, right? U never know ... this sport has been tainted. But I do hope that Usain Bolt's effort was one that no one can deny. A true sportsman.

Cheers

Today! Will Usain BOLT make histroy?

The men's 100m finals .... comming up in 27mins!

Looking at him sprint effortlessly in the semis ... seriously! he was like taking a stroll in the park and he managed a 9.92sec!

In my younger days ... I had admired Carl Lewis and how he achieved the 100, 200 & the long jump ... so watching Usain Bolt was sheer pleasure.

Like his name suggests, he is like a BOLT of lightning ;-)

Now ... who says there's nothing in a name? :-/

Of public transport & the olympics ;-)

We all have to take the public transport sometime. But some more than others!

For me since moving to this place opposite United Sq, I've been taking the bus more than the mrt. :-) Leave the house @ 8.20 n I'm in the office before 9am! err .... 8.45 to be exact .... and 23secs ;-)

This morning (Fri) however, almost made me change my mind! It was all becos I left home a little later. Ok! I'm just lazy!!!

N e ways, nuff with that. I went to the bus stop and saw a bus 166 pass by. I said it's ok. Got other buses. So it happened ... the next bus came & went, the next and the next :-( they were ALL full! I cudn't get on!!!

SBS free ride on buses day? Gee! How come nobody tell me one ah?

I finally got up a bus .... and it was almost 9! Got in much later than normal :-( guess that spoilt my day. I wowed to almost never to take the bus again!

Almost never was just as long as that evening .... I walked to the busstop and took one home :-D

Upon arriving home I realized that our dear women paddlers has done us proud! Ousting the Koreans in 5 matches. Not an easy feat .... especially after li jia wei's loss in the 2nd match :-(

She was our hope to take us to a 2-0 lead, but, that was not to be. She, however, redeemed herself in the following doubles to win 3-0 :-) congrats.

The heroine of course, was feng tian wei. She stood her ground after losing a game at 2-1. It was a close fight, but tian wei prevailed!

I'm my opinion, jia wei's good, but I think she' too aggressive and tries to go for a win with every chance. Thus causing her many unforced errors. I seriously thot that she has a one-dimentional game :( ie smash at every chance u get)

I would believe that tian wei's technique will take her far. Playing a safe game of defensive then striking when the opportunity arises. She'll probably do better when she matures in her game. :-)

I'm not sure if we can overcome the Chinese on Sunday, but my heart will b with them!

After 48yrs, we finally gurantee an olympic medal. A silver at least, but that thought shud no go in our paddlers' heads, cos surely, that will mean we'd have lost to china b4 the match even started!

Good luck ladies!

Wow! Isn't google real cool?

Funny ... it's been a long while since I blogged :(

Well ... 2 years to be exact? ... ok, ok! I can't call myself a blogger now ... can I? Sure ... I can't ... and from the looks of it ... even when I started blogging, I did it in drips and drab.

But for a quick update:
- I got meself an iPhone - if they have an iPhone module to blogging, u'll be seeing more of me here from now on!
- works been really crazy and I've been spending so much time at the office that I feel kinda awkward when I'm home :(

So, why is google cool? For one, I really forgot about this blog that I had ... looked it up and found it. Then, I really can't recall what was the ID I used to login!

After some soul seraching ... I managed to retrieved my passwd and THEN ... sync this blog with MY gmail ID! Is that cool or what?

If not for u :-( ... it is for me :D

k ... that's all for now ... will check-in again soon. :)

ciao!
